Owner Erik Martirosyan made his way to America from Armenia and Russia. Turns out the Oscars pizza delivery guy was his brother Edgar (the other owner) who earned 7.5 minutes of fame by delivering pizzas to the Oscars and then was subsequently summoned to the Ellen DeGeneres Show to collect his tip. The two have been in business for years, but this is their first foray into higher-end Neopolitan-style pizzas.

WOOD is known for signature dishes like Shakshuka (egg poached in tomato, chili, pepper, and onion sauce), Khachapuri (gondola pizza topped with mozzerella, feta, butter, and egg), and their new Dutch Baby Pancakes (sweet style flavored with vanilla, berries and Nutella, or savory – smoked salmon with sunny side up egg, roasted veggies with sour cream and herbs, or even Italian sausage with roasted veggies with sunny side up egg and salsa).

Here are our 4 favorites dishes:

Crispy Brussel Sprouts with pomegranate gastrique, tahini, and toasted sesame. Sweet, tangy, savory. The sprouts are slightly tangy from the pomegranate but you can mellow it down with the tahini it sits atop on.


Zucchini Squash Pizza aka Summer Pizza

Their super thin and crispy pizzas are made in-house with organic, GMO-free, stone ground flour imported from Italy. The wood ovens give each pizza its own character. You won’t feel overstuffed with their pies because the toppings don’t overpower the dough – like this summer pizza doused with burrata, oregano, garlic confit, and baby heirloom tomatoes.


Sausage Pizza

Not drowning in sauce, this pizza has a spicy blend of pomodoro, fiordilatte, red onion, pepperoncini, and basil.


Caprese

A caprese with creamy burrata and baby tomatoes is always the perfect starter, but this time the salad is sitting on a bed of pesto drizzled in balsamic glaze.

Vegan cheese is also offered. Come for Happy hour or 50% off wine on Wine Wednesdays. Dine inside in the clean minimalist modern establishment with iridescent gleaming colored tables that make a pretty backdrop for the food OR dine outside on the patio on a wooden table donned with succulents. Park for free in the tiny lot behind the restaurant or find metered parking on the street.
