Stefano Manfredi invites diners to enjoy a Regional Italian Feast at Box on the Water


The Box on the Water at Ettalong is a restaurant known for its architectural beauty and stunning water views. Its reputation for quality dining is quickly catching up.

The Box on the Water Master Series kicked off in October last year, with visiting chefs each creating a menu that characterises their style.

Acclaimed chef Sean Connolly was up first, followed in November by Justin North who took over the kitchen and cooked up a coastal Mediterranean menu.

Earlier this month Martin Boetz took diners on a culinary journey to Thailand.

Manfredi is known fondly in Australia as the "godfather" of modern Italian cuisine. He is a chef, restaurateur, an inspired coffee blender, successful author, a wine and food educator and an ambassador of seasonality and sustainability.
Born in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, he settled in Australia with his family in 1961.

“I was born in northern Italy but I’ve fallen in love with the south. The menu is a culinary love letter to the southern regions of Campania, Puglia an Sicily," he says.

In 1983 Manfredi opened The Restaurant – later to be renamed The Restaurant Manfredi.

In 1996 he moved to The Rocks and created Bel Mondo based on a simple philosophy: "The flavours of Italy from the fresh produce of Australia".

Restaurant Manfredi is the first Italian restaurant in Sydney to have been awarded a "three-hat" rating in the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide.

In 2007, inspired by its coastal and rural setting, Manfredi took the helm at Bells at Killcare and its restaurant Manfredi at Bells, and Pretty Beach House. He recently closed his award-winning restaurant Osteria Balla Manfredi at Star and is about to launch Pizzaperta Manfredi in the western suburbs.

The Box on the Water Master Series continues with Christine Manfield (Taste of India, April 26 and 27) and Troy Rhoades-Brown (Farm to Plate, May 31 and June 1).
